The Houndsome story
Dogwear with standards. Born in Melbourne. Made for the long walk.
We’re Claire and Lib — friends since the late '90s, former colleagues in the Australian apparel industry, and lifelong dog lovers.
We met in 1997 working at the same Australian-owned apparel business: Claire in textiles and product design, Lib in marketing and brand. A few years later, we each took different paths — Claire went on to lead retail for a global skincare powerhouse, and Lib launched (and still runs) a creative and production agency.
But dogs were always in the picture. And when we couldn’t find dogwear that reflected our standards — in design, fabrication, or ethics — we created it ourselves.
Houndsome® is for dog people who expect more: from quality, from sustainability, from how and where things are made.

Designed for dogs. And people with taste.
Our pieces are designed to do two things really well:
1. Keep dogs comfortable, healthy and warm through every season of their lives.
2. Look bloody good doing it.
From merino wool coats to ethically made accessories, every item is cut with care, crafted to last, and made right here in Australia — never outsourced, never greenwashed.
We don’t do fast fashion. We don’t do novelty prints. We do pieces that earn their keep walk after walk.

Certified Australian Made.
Supporting local makers isn’t a nice-to-have for us — it’s non-negotiable.
Houndsome is a certified Australian Made brand. Australian owned. And yes — actually made here.
A lot of brands say they’re “Australian made,” when they’re really just designed here and manufactured overseas. That’s their call. But let’s be clear — Australian designed is not the same as Australian made.
We make every Houndsome piece onshore, with partners we know by name. That means our pricing reflects real local manufacturing, not an offshore shortcut. When brands blur the lines, it distorts what “made in Australia” really means — and makes it harder for the rest of us to tell an honest story.
We work with:
Waverley Mills — Australia’s oldest woollen mill, still weaving in Launceston
The T Maker — legends of the local fashion production scene for 30+ years
Hatch + Make — next-gen Melbourne knitters dedicated to a circular economy
Bendigo Pottery — Australia's oldest pottery using stoneware clay sourced from central Victoria.
Footscray Leather — Local artisans working with natural vegetable-tanned leathers
When you buy Houndsome, you’re backing real skills, real jobs, and a properly local supply chain — no spin, no shortcuts.

Sustainability without spin.
We believe in better — not just buzzwords. That means:
Ethically sourced, natural fibres (merino is the backbone of our collection)
Long-lasting design — not seasonal throwaways
Small batch manufacturing — minimising resource waste
Packaging with purpose, not landfill
Our suppliers must share our environmental standards, and If we can’t do it right, we don’t do it.

Meet the (full) band.
Behind the scenes our partners Owen and Dan bring the muscle across brand image and logistics—ensuring everything looks sharp and shows up on time.
Together, we’ve built a small but mighty business that blends design thinking, textile know-how, operational savvy, and a deep respect for dogs.
Because dogs deserve better.
We started Houndsome because we couldn’t find dogwear that felt like it matched our values — or our dogs. Now, we make it.
Thanks for walking with us.
