WHY WE CHOOSE AUSTRALIAN MERINO WOOL

Time to read 2 min

Our collection focuses on quality, sustainability and your pet's wellbeing. We choose premium Australian Merino wool for our blankets, sportcoats, sweaters and tees. Here are some Merino wool facts and benefits, courtesy of the Woolmark Company, as to why Merino is such a perfect fibre for your dog.

100% NATURAL & BIODEGRADABLE

Grown on Australian farms where sheep consume water, air, sunshine and grass. When a wool fibre is disposed of, it will naturally decompose in soil in a matter of years, slowly releasing valuable nutrients back into the earth.

MERINO IS A RENEWABLE RESOURCE

Every year Australian sheep produce a new fleece, making Merino wool a completely renewable fibre. Think of shearing a sheep like having your hair cut, it grows back time after time, year after year.

ODOUR RESISTANT & NATURALLY BREATHABLE

An important one for our dogs! Merino wool absorbs odour molecules and only releases them upon washing. One of the most breathable fibres, it can absorb large quantities of moisture vapour then move it away to evaporate into the air.

DURABLE & WRINKLE RESISTANT

Merino wool is six times stronger than cotton. Each fibre can be bent back onto itself over 20,000 times. In comparison, cotton breaks after 3,200 times. It is like a coiled spring that returns to its natural shape after being bent, giving it a natural resistance to wrinkles. Merino's up to the challenge of a bit of rough play.

KEEP YOUR DOG WARM THROUGH WINTER AND COOL IN SUMMER

Merino reacts to changes in body temperature to help regulate heat by trapping warmth from the body when it is cold outside, and drawing heat away from the body when it is hot. Keeping your dog warm when it’s cold, and cool when the heat rises. Many synthetic fibres can regulate temperature, but not in the natural way of Merino.

SOFT-TO-TOUCH & HYPOALLERGENIC

Dogs love the softness of Merino wool due to its natural comfort, breathability, and hypoallergenic properties. Merino wool's extremely fine fibres are incredibly gentle on even the most sensitive skin, providing a cosy and warm texture that dogs find soothing.

STAIN RESISTANT & MACHINE WASHABLE

Merino wool fibres have a natural protective outer layer that helps prevent stains from being absorbed. And because it tends not to generate static, it attracts less dust and lint. All of our Merino wool products can be machine washed, making them super easy-care.

NATURALLY UV RESISTANT

Merino wool absorbs UV radiation providing inherent protection from the sun. It’s evolved over millions of years to protect sheep against the elements, and now protects your dog too.

MERINO WOOL: THE MOST USED & RECYCLED FIBRE

Wool is also one of the most sought after recycled textiles for converting into new long-lasting products. As a part of our sustainability initiatives, we return production offcuts of our Black Cockatoo range back to the mill for recycling into yarn, which then creates new fabrics and products.

Australian Owned, Australian Made

Choosing Australian made isn’t just a fashion statement; it’s a conscious decision with far-reaching benefits. From supporting local economies and artisans to prioritising quality, safety, and sustainability, the positive impact of your choice resonates across dogs, people, and the environment.
